It was likely she was exiled from her own village. Was this girl a beloved child of fairies? The merchant was an open-minded person and pitied her. This is why common people, despite benefits the chosen by fairies person could bring to community, looked down the ones who believes and worship fairies. All of them except the Seven had perished in the war. People believed in the Seven Deities because they managed to stop the rampage of fairies but before the war had started… There were many more divine beings. At least it was told like this in legends that circulated in the world and in annals of the Seven Deities temples all over the continent. Everything in order to avenge their queen’s beloved child. With a raw power beyond the one of the deities, they once waged genocide war against humans. Even time and space was rumored to be under their control. “Fairies… Huh…” – The spirits of nature that rule and represent everything in the world. “Me?” – The girl pointed her index finger at herself and mumbled something afterwards before responding with – “I believe in fairies… Though I not worship them because they are annoying beings that liked to pester me about little things in the past.” “No need to worry about the Seven Deities, the main temple still follows the doctrine that everybody is accepted by the Divine, even those who do not worship them,” – With a lighthearted smile the old man tried to disperse bad memories of the girl and reassure her – “What kind of deity do you worship?” This girl was likely a victim of such oppression. The religion of the Seven Deities was the main one in this part of the world, however there were many minor ones in frontier parts of human kingdoms, and sometime believers of the Seven Deities oppressed the so-called heretics. The merchant managed to grasp that strange behavior and silently sighed. “Seven Deities…” – The voice of the girl became quite and her face slightly changed for a moment. “No need to worry, unless you are a spy from one of our neighbors,” – This child was really lacking a common sense, rural villages were quite isolated but she came from completely singled out one – “The Royal Mage’s Tower has a way to clarify your true identity… The stone of the Seven Deities.” After several moments she made a decision and asked the peddler – “Gramps, do you think I can join that academy without proper papers? Will they accept someone with questionable affiliation?” “Oh! So that is how it is…” – There was a surprised expression on the girl’s face, which soon returned to her carefree one. Local lords had an obligation to search and protect youngsters with affinity to magic. Because of this, the kingdom of Elnair established magic academy to find and educate the rare talents that appeared throughout of its vast territory. While ability to use magic was a hereditary to some degree, which lead to establishment of nobility, there was a possibility to find a child among commoners. It made the merchant a little amazed but considering her rural upbringing he smiled and told what he knew himself.Ī magician, the most important asset of any kingdom, which required lot of nurturing and right conditions to reach its optimal power as fast as possible. “Hey, Gramps… Are magic users really rare?” – It seemed that the girl was interested in magic since she was a magic user herself. Since there was no secrecy around it, the old man talked a lot. It was a second day after that event but she still kept almost silent about herself, aside her name, which was Cornelia, and asked many questions about the kingdom. While he was ready to lose his life, this youngster appeared, riding on her monstrous wolf, and crushed criminals in several seconds. After all, if not this girl and her wolf, he would lost his life to bandits on highway. However, the merchant was not afraid and even felt secure near such a fearsome beast. The girl silently nodded in acknowledgement and continued to observe surroundings from the height of her ride, which was twice as tall in comparison to a mounted knight. It felt nice to talk with someone during a travel on rural roads, where small peddlers like him could gain their coin since large trade companies ignored such routes – “Of course, a young lady like you could become a bigshot in the academy if you try to apply…” “So, you came from afar?” – The old merchant nonchalantly smiled at a young girl, who cheerfully patted a large white wolf, she was riding on.
